A couple days off

No work last friday and today!!! I have plenty of vacation time and no where to go so I had a couple days off to myself. I thought most of both days would be spent in bed or watching Regis & Kelly and any other TV shows that one misses while at work. I thought I wouldn't do anything but they ended up with many moments full of discovery.

One of my greatest treasures is time. In my opinion true wealth is being able to have time to do activities one enjoys. Of course it would be great to be financially independant to the point I don't work and hang out all day but that isn't my goal (a nice day dream of course) nor my point. If I am able to have time to do something I enjoy, be it a trip to the mall, a bike ride, a car ride on a sunny day, being able to do those things no matter how small or insignificant they are adds to life and in those moments we discover our individuality, freedom, and memories of happiness.

I easily get caught up in being busy or engaging in activities just to accomplish them and often don't take time for myself. This weekend I discovered a few things...

On a sunny day I enjoy driving around town with no particular destination.
I enjoy eating lunch in a park
I enjoy shopping, window shopping, and walking around stores with sales.
I enjoy spending a few hours browsing through bookstores.
I enjoy walking outside on a sunny day.
I enjoy listening to jazz.
I enjoy waking up and not having to rush out the door to get to work in the morning.
I do enjoy watching the last ten minutes of the morning news and then the first ten to fifteen minutes of Regis & Kelly. (I don't know why it's just my thing on a day off!)

Co-Workers

Today a co-worker and I decided to email Burger King coupons to the people who send out those email scams stating they are in Africa and have millions to send if you provide them with your address.

After talking about this for a moment or two we laughed uncontrollably.

Some days the best thing about work is the fun to be had with co-workers.

Deja New

When I have deja vu it is usually from a dream and involves something I have been thinging about or something that is about to happen to me. It doesn't happen often but from time to time it does. I can never figure out what is going to happen before it happens as I usually don't even realize I've seen the event until it occurs.

So this last weekend while catching up on movies I haven't seen I had a couple deja-vuish experiences. The cool thing would have been to seen something in a movie that I already dreamed about with the exact same actors, dialouge, props, etc., etc. But that didn't happen. Actually just to see before hand myself seeing a couple movies that I wanted to see isn't all that exciting or specifically deja vu.

What happened was different but kind of like deja vu. A shot out of two different movies seemed familiar in that I had already seen them but it wasn't the scene from the movie I had seen before as much as I saw who I was while watching the movie. I recognized thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and the over all state my life was in at that specific moment. So most of that information couldn't have been made up nor was it something I could have been thinking about as it hadn't happened before hand.

I have only had that happen on a couple occaisions before and it is not quite deja vu but isn't anything else I recogniz either. And in the grand scheme of things it isn't anything that is supernatural, inhuman, or would make me money if I could see the end of sporting events. It is just something that makes me say "hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm"

As for the movies:
Movie I thought were phenominal and highly recommend: The Bourne Ultimatum!! It is the best sequel of the summer. Just to see the bits out of commercials is worth it let alone the story line! See it a Drive in (like me) or on a big screen!!!

Movie I thought was awful and don't recommend: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer!!
I saw this at a $1.50 theatre and wanted to ask for my money back!! I loved the first Fab Four flick but the second one was awful!!!!!

Movies that were just okay: Knocked Up and Chuck & Larry. I expected more from knocked up and Chuck & Larry was just a bunch of okay to be gay arguements in movie format. Both could have been better and didn't really cover any new ground. (Of course I saw both movies after the Bourne Ultimatum and that is a tough act to follow)

A beanie, a beating or killing, and Mark Wahlberg

Has anyone noticed how most of the films Mark Wahlberg is in seem to have the same ending? At the end of the film or near the end he ends up with a beanie or skull cap type hat and kills someone. In The Departed he even had surgical looking bootys on. At the end of shooter he had a hoodie on after killing the bad guys and at the end of Four Brothers he beats a guy to death before his buddies throw him into a lake.

Chow Yun Fat dies in most of the movies he is in and Mark Wahlberg ends up in a beanie killing people.

How a weekend slips away

This last weekend I had two goals.
  1. Change my oil
  2. Clean part of my closet

I managed to change my oil but that was it. My battery died an hour before I was going to leave for a BBQ so I am scrambling home & use my dad's truck to pick up supplies for the BBQ, then rush off to a poker game that went late. After dinner with family the next day I spend a few hours getting my battery replaced. Throw in dinner out with friends or family a couple nights and there goes my weekend.

So tonight I have a date with my closet...yuck. When does Monday night football start?

The nice part about getting stranded and having to walk when my car died was walking by a couple nice parks. I got to commune with nature and realized my ankle is healing well. It didn't hurt when I had a couple 30 minute walks at a fast pace with no ankle supports.
