Back to Pizza Delivery

I started delivering pizza about a month and a half ago because it was something I had done before, finding houses is easy and I enjoy driving around in my car listening to music (Who doesn’t???). I had applied at a couple black jack stores before getting hired at Pappa John’s.

The people working Pizza Delivery jobs are interesting. One guy has worked as a courier all his life and wasn’t making great money as a courier so he is delivering pizza. One guy is from Mongolia and works another job while coaching basketball. One of the managers is a musician who is trying to get his music career off the ground. One gal and her husband deliver for Pappa John’s and another guy is delivering while working towards his paralegal certification.

After working mostly with women at the university it is a breath of fresh air to work mostly with men at a delivery job. I enjoy their camaraderie and the laid back atmosphere which isn’t politically correct and informal. Most everyone on the planet is aware that I am not the office type but it is another thing to be outside of an office environment and enjoy it. Working Pizza delivery has confirmed my belief that I value being in an informal environment working with people.

I have been kicking around ideas of jobs that would support those values: being a limo driver, a bar tender, working in retail, hospitality business, or a different customer service type job. I have checked out ads for a few and talked to a couple people in some of these occupations. I have thinking about trying something new & different, but definitely no full time Pizza delivery!

Delivering for Pappa John’s

That is what I have been doing three to four nights a week. One night per weekend and most of the work week I change clothes while racing from Down town Denver to Aurora in rush hour traffic (it truly is amazing to do that in under an hour without speeding) to deliver pizza until 10 p.m.

Yeah so I’m bored and have no hobbies but a budding interest in capitalism...

Truth is I took the job to save up for my trip to Las Vegas and to cover expenses for my trip to California. A close friend is getting married and I am in the wedding. The first couple week weeks tips were good but with Gas going up there aren’t as many orders coming in and tips aren’t as great…I hope the price of gas goes down!

I haven’t written much lately as I come home tired most nights wanting a shower. The nights I’m not working I’m spending time by myself or catching up with friends. There is so much to comment on & reflect on while working this job but that will follow in a future post at in the future!

Highlights from my trip to Las Vegas, May 1st - 4th

Walked up and down most of the strip. Visited Cesar’s Place, The Plazo, The Wynn, and The Venetian.

Watched the Bellagio’s water fountain show…VERY COOL!!!

Had one watch and one bracelet on my arm that had a combined value of over $1,500 (and I didn’t purchase them).

Teased the guys who hand out cards on the streets! As one walks down the strip you are barraged by men holding out cards from strippers or prostitutes. They come across as pushy, leaning in close to you and hold them out and stare at you like you are supposed to take their card. What I would do is hold out a combination of receipts, business cards, and my monorail pass as I walked by them. I was teasing them to take my stuff. None of these guys spoke English and they all stared at me…I thought it was hilarious and so did most people behind me.

Played in 3 poker tournaments. They all ranged from 40 to 60 players. I finished 11th in one and 7th in another.

I watched a cockroach run across a poker table.

Ate at an expensive all you can eat Sushi buffet!!!

Most importantly I didn’t spend all my money and came home with some.
