I can't whistle
At the very least this site is a place where I can air my rants, tyraids, and crazy ideas when no one else will listen. It is also a place where friends and family can stop by to find out what is going on in Duane's life and hear a few crazy stories!

Living on my own
I wasn't sure how I would adjust to being on my own & living on the other side of town from Aurora which is the city where I grew up & spent the last 34 years of my life. I don't like change and was expecting to be a little depressed once I moved away from Aurora to a new area where I don't know many people & am not familiar with the neighbor hood. I thought I would have a difficult time adjusting and end up spending many nights in alone in my own little world.
The opposite is my story as I like Lakewood and have spent many nights out exploring or hanging out with friends who live near by or friends in other parts of town. My buddy Jeff lives a few miles away and we have been going to the gym a few nights a week. So far I have eaten out at a new restuarant on an average of two nights a week and have been able to keep in touch with friends in Aurora & Arvada sine I have moved. I have also been to a Bible study in lakewood but have not checked out any new churches. I am having a great time and hope the feeling of newness doesn't ware off. I believe if I keep exploring something new about Lakewood every week I will be able to keep a sense of mystery & excitement alive while living here.

Iron Chef tip number 2,346.8
Instead of salt on my eggs this morning...I used soy sauce. It gives the same salty taste but also with a soy flavor.
YUM! YUM! YUM!

Eating humble pie with David Letterman
In one of my previous blogs I was giving my inital reaction to the David Letterman scandal and the more that comes out about this scandal the more I have to admit my intial reaction was flawed & premature.
While I was giving him props for admitting it & coming clean about the situation it apprears I was doing so without enough information for a complete opinion & perspective. With in the last few days a couple stories have come out and the situation is getting weirder & weirder. One of the staff members has been identified & it is her exhusband or boyfriend (I forget their relationship) who was attempting to black mail Letterman. I don't recall details about the staff member leaving her ex for letterman but apparently there is a love triangle gone wrong story coming out. At first it appreared that this was something that happened years ago before letterman met his wife but the staff member's diary supposedly discloses of a rendevouz with letterman as recent as last year. Considering Letterman has been married for a few years...the story is getting better for Letterman.
I'm not a David Letterman fan and most celebrity type current events don't impress me enough to comment on them. I blog about this as I want to be the first to admit my previous post about this situation was done so prematurely without enough information to make an accurate & informed opinion. Some times I make my opinions prematurely without taking time to reflect & weigh all the factors that make up a healthy & balanced perspective. I wanted to be the first to admit it & eat my own humble pie!!!
I am sure anyone reading this doesn't care but I ADMIT IT ANYWAY!!!

The new digs
I am still unpacking at my new place. The first week I lived here I was too tired to do anything after work except sit infront of the T.V. or sleep on the couch. The second week I was house sitting in Denver so this week I'm finally getting around to unpacking.
The 3 mile drive from my front door to 6th & Union is filled with a very diverse group of restuarants. Plenty of chinese, japanese, sushi, american bistro, fast food, mexican & irsh-mexican (That is the bar called Hosea-O'sheas). I picked up dinner last night from a authentic, mom & pop looking, mexican fast food dive. They specializes in burrito's of most every variety you can imagine & have a drive through!!! Despite being a dive the burritos are PHENOMINAL!!! If you are near Alameda & Union check out Burrito Express as I will go back there many a night...
Tonight I grabed dinner from a New York Pizza & Calzone restuarant that is family owned with good people running it who provide Excellent customer service (They gave me a free 2 liter of soda just for waiting an extra 12 minutes for my food!!). It also is a dive but with friendly & nice staff. So far I am loving my dinning out experiences at dive restuarants in lakewood.

Swine flu for me please
I am sick...dont know if it is the swine flu or regular flu but it is no fun. Sniffles, coughing, sore throat at times, and a head ache. Would love to sleep in bed for a couple days but I probably won't be able to do that until the weekend and by then I maybe feeling fine.
The upside to getting sick is cough drops. I like the berry & citrus flavored kind!!!

David Letterman is scandalous???
I hate to the be dissenter and take a different perspective but I really don't think David Letterman's current issue is all that scandalous. I rarely watch the Letterman show as I don't care for his act & I rarely watch late night TV as I usually go to sleep the same time these shows begin. But for whatever crazy reason I was awake & did watch the Letterman show when he brought up the blackmail situation. Letterman takes ten to fifteen minutes to describe the situation in a humoursous monoluge where he makes fun of himself through in his usual style of self demeaning humor. What is weird is the audience laughs when he admits to having sex with staff members of his show, granted it was difficult to tell if he was making a joke or not.
If any one would care to view the episode it can be seen online at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SriJ3WOZ
I have listened to a few bloggers, talk show personnel, and radio hosts discuss this event and most of them talk about how awful it is and how much of a scandal it is and how they are shocked. I won't disagree with most any thing they said but I do want to make a few points.
First of all Letterman didn't have to make this public. Granted it may have become public news eventually but he didn't have to annouce it to the world on national T.V. which he did. He could have denied it & probably had it covered up enough that when news about it got out it would have come across as a rumor or gossip. Instead Letterman addresses it on his show.
One thing I have not heard many news shows address was the style or manner in which he admits his past indiscretions. He does it through a humorous monologue but he does not glorify sex, cheating on his wife, or anything that he did. He does not give any specific details nor does he give any names. He tells the story in a straight forward this is what is going on type manner. On one hand the comedy makes it awkward but at the same time it is almost like a confession. At no point does he acknowledge it was wrong or express any regret but it appears he is not proud about what he did. At one point in the monologue he admits he is a massive blob of quivering guilt.
Before I go any further I do have to acknowledge a few possibilities. Not many people know why he admitted it on his show. It is possible the story would come out through news paper reports or some other news media and Letterman wanted to beat them to the punch. It is possible Letterman knew on his show he could portray himself any way he wanted to portray himself. In the comfort of his own show he could tell the story in such a way that he apprears not proud and appears to be confessing. We don't know what is going on inside David Letterman and we don't know his motives but I like to think that David Letterman is trying to do the right thing by admitting his indiscrestions and is not proud of them. I may be off base on this assessment and it may not be accurate but that is my opinion.
