My summer

For the last couple weeks I not blogged and it is has been an active & busy couple weeks. I have been house sitting every weekend, talking with my sister & dad about how to take care of mom, and I have been looking into my own business.

Instead of the good, the bad, and the ugly, let's go with the Funny, the sad, and the Crazy.

The Funny - While house sitting for one of my regular's something happened that has never happened before. They only use their deadbolt. As I was leaving one morning it broke. While locking it from the outside I noticed the key kept spinning in the lock. So the door is locked and I can't get the key to work so I'm locked out. I tried finding a couple other ways in and tried playing around with the lock but I could not open this door locked with a dead bolt. I ended up calling a locksmith who drilled the deadbolt to get me in but had another call so he left. The family was coming home the next day and I didn't want them to come home to a drilled deadbolt that doesn't work so I figure I can replace the lock by myself. Which I did after three hours. When the locksmith drilled the deadbolt he drilled the back of the screws so they were jammed and would not come out. I got one screw out but had to break the other. Because I'm not much of a handy man I pull out every tool I can find this house which I think will help me. I pulled out 4 screw drivers, an electric drill, a mini crowbar, 2 needle nose plyers, 2 regular plyers, and a couple of the locking/lock jaw wrenches.

The Sad - My sister and I have been talking about getting serious help for my mom. She is not doing well and has gone down hill over the last few years. We have talked about in home nursing and guardianship. After kicking around ideas and not in agreement about how to pursue guardianship on our own, Arapahoe county has gotten involved. Apparently the case worker from the rehabilitation center where my mom was housed called the Department of Aging and let them know she had concerns about my mother.

The Crazy - I have this business idea I have been researching. I don't want to talk about it yet because I want to be a surprise but I am trying to pull something together. It is a crazy idea as I'm not the business savvy type guy nor do a lot of plans work out for me. I'm not the lucky type guy. I am the guy who is into art & cultural pursuits. I like helping people and social causes so me going into any business type pursuit on my own doesn't make sense and most sensible people would advise me not to do it. Who knows if it will work or not. At the very least it has been a fun learning experience and could be a nice hobby.

Goals & Accomplishments

I have not done accomplished anything I told myself I would do since I moved to lakewood. I had many goals & projects which I should have been able to complete in my spare time. Goals like set up my weight lifting bench, finish scanning all photos to my pc, back up all my electronic data, get an inventory for everything i own (for insurance purposes), get rid of furniture and items I do not need, transfer all files from my old PC to my new PC, and buy more hiking & biking equipment.

So buying the hiking & biking equipment is the fun and easy goal to complete. After living in lakewood ten months I have not done anything else. True the first five months I have been getting settled in and spending alot of time helping the couple I live with run errands & get packed for their trip to Africa. What have I done with the last five months...I have been enjoying living on my own.

I can claim success with completing another goal...I was able to transfer all the old files from my old pc to my new one. Two down and five to go. At the rate I'm going I won't get another done before Christmas!!!

New toy

I bought a notebook. I have always wanted a small laptop or notebook to have on the go. It would make recording thoughts or writing on the fly easy. I could play games or watch DVDs or listen to music anywhere as long as it was with me. I am not much of a tech type guy so this is a big purchase for me. It didn't set me back much and with any wireless broadband I can surf the web or check my email from Starbucks as I enjoy a beverage. Ahhhh...Starbucks...my happy place.
