Feels so good to have a house to myself

I have the place to myself again! The couple I live with have returned to Africa and it feels great to be on my own. I can do laundry when I want, I can eat what I want, walk around the house in my underwear and not worry about offending anyone, and I can watch lots of sports & guy shows.

Last night I could not sleep so I got up and watched UFC fights & the boxing channel. I love cable...I love having a place to live on my own!

Another article about volunteering

So I have not done much volunteering lately and it gets to me. I was a human services major in college and I loved classes & opportunities to help others and find ways to address various issues tied to abuse, drugs, poverty, and suffering in any form it may take. The more I look back at my college years I am guessing it was not the study of abuse, drugs, poverty, and suffering but knowing that I could go out and do something about those issues. That is most likely what I enjoy about volunteering and being apart of organizations that give back to the community or seek to help people.

Life is about change and change is about growth. The last few years I have not been as active of a volunteer as I would have liked. I have found ways to support a variety of events through time, money, or service but I have not committed myself to any organization or cause. That is because I have been reflecting on what I value and what causes tug at my heart and move me to action.

I can be an overly impassioned person and jump into things too quickly. Yes I have an impetuous streak in me and I know it. I do not want to burn out or get overwhelmed as much as I want to make a difference. In order to do that I need to take my time and carefully consider opportunities to serve and how I can best use my time, talents, and resources. I feel I am getting closer and on the days when I do not feel like I am doing enough I like to reread this article. I look at the guy in the front row wearing glasses and know that one day, he will go one to continue doing good things.

Late night snow shoeing

Earlier this year on a snow shoeing trip I connected with a couple guys who love hiking & snow shoeing. I have stayed in touch with them as it is nice to know people who enjoy snow shoeing and to have people who would go from time to time. One of the guys likes to have late night snow shoeing trips and there was one last night. It ended up being just two of us but it was fun!

We drove out to Ward and found a spot near beaver lake. It was around 40 degrees so it was not cold & there was plenty of snow on the ground. We snow shoed two miles into the lake and then blazed a trail down the mountain to a camp ground. At the camp ground we were away from the tree line and could see the stars & the full moon. It was fun to snow shoe at night! I was so excited for this trip I even bought my own pair of snow shoes.
