Quiet Summer

So I haven't done much this summer. Last summer I was working a part time job so I had an excuse but this summer I don't have an excuse. I must be lazy.

The highlights of my summer so far are six house sitting gigs that have come my way, buying a truck, the gas pump going out on my car, and watching UFC 100!!! That was a high point. Who didn't want to see the Brock Lesnar & Frank Mir rematch??? I loved watching Dan Henderson KO Michael Bisping!!! Who didn't love that?!?!?! Anyhow....

There is alot going on at my office. Two of my coworker's bought houses, two others are in the process of buying houses, one is pregnant, & another just became engaged. I figure to keep up I have to meet a woman, get married, get her pregnant, buy a house & a dog & a lama (because I am different), and win the lottery all in one weekend. That is way too much pressure so I won't start that this weekend but who knows what may happen next weekend. :)

I attended a Municpal City Jazz Concert tonight. It was at Fairmount cemetary and under the threat of a storm it was moved inside their mortuary which was interesting (Big band Jazz & dead people). They had a nice chapel to use so I wasn't near any cadavers...which is always a good thing in my book.

Pay more for more service

So the other night I paid $15 just for a movie ticket. The theatre is operating under a new idea by Mark Cuban (SP?) who owns the Dallas Mavericks. The idea is patron's pay more but get more service. I recieved unlimited popcorn & soda and was personally escorted to my seat by a conceirge. Once seated attendants bring you drink & popcorn orders. I choose a more expsensive ticket to get a seat that reclines and is wider.

I know what some of you may be thinking. Duane you just paid more money for the exact same movie going experience I had at a theatre that charges $9.25 for a ticket. While that may be true I also learned a lesson about how businesses compete and what we value. When businesses can not offer a better deal they offer better service. Consumers use to value excellent service as much as a quality product. While I'm sure the value of service varies from every imaginable demographic group it is still offered from time to time. I don't always notice companies that provide a service but it is nice to see them out there.

I won't pay $15 for a movie ticket again but the service was great!!!
