The day the King of Pop died

Farrah Fawcett & Michael Jackson died today. While in many ways this is probably one of the most historical days that will pass in my life time next to Barrack Obama elected as the first Black President.

I am conflicted. This is a great opportunity to make all sorts of jokes using his songs. Don't like you haven't thought about it yourself. Just change the lyrics a little and we have plenty of material!!!!

All tasteless jokes aside I'm intrigued by Michael Jackson's life and influence. His title was the King of Pop and he achieved what most artists will never come close too achieving as far as album sales, world wide popularity & recognition, cultural influence, and serving as a catalyst for change in how members of once race will be viewed & accepted in the media and in modern culture. Everyone loved him and if anyone has turned on the radio everyone has heard from what seems like every celebrity from Justin Timberlake, Jamie Fox, Wesley Snips, Neo, and Mylie Syrus talk about how they were influenced by the late Michael Jackson.

Personally Jackson was quite different from a King. In his later years he was accused of sexual abuse and noted over the years for eccentric behavior. He had multiple surgeries & treatments for his looks & skin color. He was noted for child like behavior and mentality. Maybe he was mentally child like? Maybe he was abused or deeply hurt as a child, either phsyicaly, emotionally, or sexually? Maybe he had some sort of learning disablity or mental illness? I don't know the intimate details of Michael Jackson's life but it seems as though his life was constantly marked by tragedy. I find it interesting that a man who most likely endured a life time of sorrow & misunderstanding ended up bringing the world countless hours of entertainment & cultural change through his music.

More so I am concerned about his family. I hope they find the courage, hope, space to grieve, and comfort they need in dealing with this loss that no one expected. I do feel for his family & hope they find meaning in his death. The more I reflect on that last statement, I hope the world finds meaning in his death. That truly would end with all of us learning to make a change and make the world a better place.
